The Dip-Buying Opportunity with Nio Stock Won’t Last Much Longer

Posted: 22 Dec 2020 04:31 AM PST

I've got to hand it to my friends on the InvestorPlace team. The vast majority of them were pounding the table in favor of Nio (NYSE:NIO) back when Nio stock was $2.50 or $3 a share. And now, look at how far the stock has come.

A Nio (NIO) sign outside of the company's facilities in Shanghai, China.

Of course, stocks don't just go up in a straight vertical line. Even the super-bulls had to have known that Nio stock would eventually retrace. After all, when a stock goes up hundreds of percentage points, it only takes a flimsy excuse for the market to drop the share price.

In the case of Nio stock, the flimsy excuse to sell the shares came in mid-December. Hopefully, you took the InvestorPlace writers' ideas to heart and bought Nio shares months ago.

But even if you didn't do that, it's perfectly fine. With the retracement in play, you now have another chance to purchase the shares before Nio stock flies higher.

A Closer Look at Nio Stock

Suffice it to say that 2020 has been a year of triumph for Nio stock holders. However, the year didn't exactly start off on an auspicious note.

During the first quarter of 2020, it felt as if Nio stock would be a penny stock forever. (A penny stock is defined by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as a stock trading for less than $5.)

Today, the picture looks quite different. As the investing community got hyped up about electric vehicles this year, the Nio share price stair-stepped its way up to $14 in July, then $28 in October.

Yet, the best was yet to come as the Nio stock bulls managed to thrust the share price up to $57.20 in November. That turned out to be the 52-week high, and perhaps it was too steep of an ascent.

Hence, an overdue correction took place in Nio stock. As of Dec. 18, the share price closed at $46.72. So, what prompted the sell-off, and is it a permanent problem?

The Big Sale

It's fair to say that Nio stock, and electric vehicle stocks generally, simply went too far and a cooling-off period was due.

However, there was an added catalyst in the case of Nio stock. To be more specific, the company sold 68 million American depositary receipts in a secondary offering.

Typically, these types of share offerings aren't available to amateur retail traders. Rather, they're usually bought up by big-money investors. It's not unusual for companies to sell large blocks of shares at a discount in this manner.

For this secondary offering, the Nio American depositary receipts were sold at $39 apiece. The common stock share price was higher than that, so the market may have reacted negatively to the discount-priced sale.

Not Everyone Is Bearish

Some commentators might even criticize the sale as a "money grab." Yet, it cannot be denied that Nio could potentially use the capital raised by the sale to expand its operations or possibly even introduce new vehicle models.

And indeed, Nio is expected to announce a new vehicle model during an analyst event scheduled for Jan. 9. The company might even introduce new Lidar (laser-based radar) automotive technologies to the public.

Actually, that might just be the beginning. As I learned InvestorPlace contributor Will Ashworth, Nio could have as many as five vehicles to sell by late 2021 or early 2022.

Besides, not everyone is deterred by the depositary receipt sale. Two-thirds of analysts covering Nio stock rate it a "buy." Among them is Deutsche Bank analyst Edison Yu, who assigned a $50 price target on the stock, even after factoring in the secondary sale.

The Bottom Line

InvestorPlace contributor Ian Cooper asserted that the pullback in Nio stock is only temporary. I tend to agree with him on that.

Don't be misled into assuming that Nio's secondary offering was just a "money grab." The funds can be put to good use, potentially enabling the electric vehicle maker to forge ahead with new technologies.

After Rough Few Weeks, It’s Not All Bad News for Alibaba Stock

Posted: 22 Dec 2020 02:29 AM PST

The price action in recent weeks hasn't been entirely nice to Alibaba (NYSE:BABA) shareholders. But rather than see BABA stock as bad or naughty as charged, it's time to look appreciatively toward good tidings to come.

Alibaba (BABA) logo on the side of a glass-walled building.

Source: testing / Shutterstock.com

Let's look at some of the company's coal-like drags, a couple of under-appreciated gifts, the more-joyful Alibaba stock chart now taking shape and how investors can position more smartly for the future.

It's been a tough several weeks for BABA's stock holders. Last week's lows were off 21% from the shares' late October all-time-high. And for what it's worth, the unruly, market-defying behavior hasn't been without cause either.

Antitrust Angst Roils BABA Stock

Investors initially sent Alibaba shares scurrying and down by 8% back in early November after the Shanghai Stock Exchange announced it was suspending the initial public offering of Ant Group. The fintech founded by Alibaba's Jack Ma was priced to become the world's largest IPO at a valuation in excess of $300 billion. Trouble, right? Not so fast.

An overall stronger-than-forecast earnings release for its second quarter and record-breaking Singles Day sales of $56 billion acted as a call to arms from investors. Sadly, those bargain-hunting efforts in BABA were quickly derailed by more bearish news in the first half of November.

Proposed anti-trust regulations sounding like a page taken from U.S. investigations into Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) and other trillion-dollar club tech stocks, took shares sharply lower over two trading days before trending further down to stock prices from August. Concerns of actions against Alibaba by China's government continued to weigh on BABA into December, but now Alibaba has other headaches. too.

On Dec. 18, POTUS signed legislation that would give the boot to U.S.-listed foreign companies that fail to follow U.S. auditing standards for three years in a row. "The Holding Foreign Companies Accountable Act" wasn't aimed specifically at BABA or Chinese stocks for that matter. But given the Administration's war with Beijing, as well as Alibaba's massive valuation and business tendrils, investors have reacted to the legislation and pressured shares as much as 4% the past two sessions.

Alibaba Stock Weekly Price Chart

Bad press and investor concern, like what BABA has been going through, generally tends to sort itself out. Rather than judge, let's just say "it is what it is." And right now, "what it is" is all the worrying of the last couple months taking on the shape of a decent-looking and playable low in shares.

Technically and as the weekly chart of Alibaba stock above reveals, a double-bottom has developed over the last six weeks. With the fairly stiff correction forming in a Fibonacci-backed support area and stochastics in oversold territory, there's reasons to believe a meaningful, intermediate-term bottom is nearby.

Currently, a pattern hold looks buyable above last week's doji high of $264.90. The entry could draw in additional buyers as this trigger results in BABA crossing back above an uptrend formed off its Covid-19 low. That should provide more fuel for the double-bottom to act as a solid platform for appreciably higher prices.

Improving The Odds

I'd caveat this buying strategy and require stochastics to form a bullish crossover. The extra layer of confirmation could mean a slightly steeper entry price. However, it should serve to reinforce the chances for a meaningful low in BABA.

Lastly and to further improve those odds, I'd recommend a February $250 / $300 Alibaba stock collar.

To be fair, this fully hedged position is a slightly pricier gift given its structure. The good news? It will be less expensive if a buy signal in shares emerges. This spread should continue to give back to investors long after the upcoming holiday, past early February's earnings report and come in handy if shares prove menacingly more naughty than nice.

SoftBank SPAC: 10 Things to Know as SoftBank Launches SFVA Stock

Posted: 22 Dec 2020 01:54 AM PST

SoftBank (OTCMKTS:SFTBY) has made waves with its unicorn portfolio companies. Now, it wants to try its hand at a special purpose acquisition company. In a late-afternoon filing on Monday, SoftBank shared its plans to bring a SPAC public. So what do you need to know? And why should you care about a SoftBank SPAC?

Source: Ned Snowman / Shutterstock.com

Importantly, SoftBank and its founder Masayoshi Son have a history of supporting startups. Through its Vision Fund, SoftBank has contributed to the rise of several high-profile names like Uber (NYSE:UBER) and WeWork. Although not all are successful, SoftBank has a way of captivating investor attention and promising disruption. And today, Opendoor (NASDAQ:OPEN), one of its portfolio companies, came public via another SPAC.

Now SoftBank wants to try its own blank-check company. With that in mind, here is what you need to know about the SoftBank SPAC:

  • SoftBank says that this blank-check company will help it bridge the worlds of public and private investing.
  • Importantly, the company will focus on IPO-ready tech companies.
  • Additionally, SoftBank introduces its U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing with a message about the artificial intelligence revolution.
  • Investors should note that SoftBank Investment Advisers, which also manages the Vision Fund, will be responsible for the SoftBank SPAC.
  • According to the filing, SoftBank will offer 52.5 million units at $10 each. There is the potential for it to issue as many as 60.4 million units.
  • Each of these units will include one share of common stock and one-fourth of a warrant.
  • The SoftBank SPAC will trade as SFVA stock on the Nasdaq Exchange.
  • Investors should note that the warrants will trade as SFVAW.
  • This could see the SoftBank SPAC raise $525 million.
  • Company representatives say the SPAC target will be a business that SoftBank has not already invested in.

Why the SoftBank SPAC and SFVA Stock Matter

So why should investors care about the SoftBank SPAC?

Well, the answer to that question is largely the leadership and expertise that SoftBank and Son bring. SoftBank certainly is not immune to failure — the WeWork IPO debacle proved as much. However, Son has invested in hundreds of startups and shown leadership in investing in tech startups. As SoftBank moves into the world of blank-check companies, many investors may see the SoftBank SPAC as the best of the best.

Similarly, we have seen investors flock to Pershing Square Tontine Holdings (NYSE:PSTH) because of the leadership of Bill Ackman. Combining the leadership of the Vision Fund with the red-hot SPAC space could trigger a flock of interest in SFVA stock.

On that same note, SoftBank has had its hands in some of the most well-known, disruptive tech companies. This is exactly what investors are looking for right now with SPAC mergers. Especially as investors celebrated the debut of OPEN stock, a SoftBank funding recipient, it is clear that there is potential in the SoftBank SPAC. This is even more true thanks to hints that SoftBank could be targeting the AI space.

Additionally, as Axios reported this morning, SFVA will not be the only blank-check company from SoftBank. It is allegedly in talks to bring two more SPACs to market.

Keep the SoftBank SPAC and SFVA stock on your radar. This SPAC merger news has potential to be huge.

What Are the Advantages of Using Micro-Switch

Posted: 22 Dec 2020 12:34 AM PST

A microswitch is a type of momentary contact switch. It is also called miniature snap action switch and is widely used in the automotive, medical, and electronics industry. The term “micro” used in its name is the name of the company that first started manufacturing it. They are available in various switching configurations and actuator styles and are made up of various materials like polyester, phenolic plastic products, etc.

STRUCTURE OF MICRO-SWITCHES

The actuator of the micro-switches generally has a hinged-wheel placed over their push button which can be pressed even with a little force applied on it. This actuates the switches and it returns to their off state when the force applied is removed or is less than the activation force. Internally, they are made up of a stiff strip of metal which is supported by a spring. The metal strip flips if enough force is applied on the push button present outside. The metal during its action produces a clicking sound which is similar to the sound of a mouse click commonly used.

USES OF MICRO-SWITCHES

These switches are used in many industrial areas. They are used in many places and items which we use in our daily life like cars, home appliances, industrial equipment, etc. Some common uses are-

  1. They are used in printers to detect paper jams.

  2. They are used in vending machines also as a jam detector as well as to sense coins when entered into the machine.

  3. They are used as a safety apparatus in lifts.

  4. They are used in microwaves as door interlocks.

  5. They are used to detect the valve’s open-close position.

  6. They are used in control circuits of appliances like lamps, small-size motors, solenoids, etc.

  7. They can be also used as limit switches, control switches, or used to create time mechanisms when used with the combination of various devices.

eg. A motor-driven cam and a switch can create a timer mechanism; rollers, plungers, or levers with a micro switch can form a limit switch, etc.

ADVANTAGES OF USING MICRO-SWITCH

As compared with other switches available in the market, the micro-switches are extremely reliable. As they are accurate in their functioning, they can be used repeatedly without any chance of failure. They also provide a variety of switching positions that can’t be achieved with the other switches available in the market. Due to this reason, they are used in many safety-related products.

Another major advantage that they provide is in terms of their durability. They are engineered to be durable and even a less expensive micro-switch can provide you with more than 10 million cycles of its operation.

Considering their price, they came quite inexpensive comparing with other similar purpose switches. If purchased in bulk-order, they are the cheapest option with the best quality switch product available in the market. So, combined with their reliability, durability, and cost-effectiveness, they are one of the most popular and crucial devices available in the electronics market.

If you are looking for micro-switches, then you can bulk order from china micro switches manufacturer. We manufacture and sell the best quality micro-switches at irresistibly low prices. We are in the business for more than 25 years and provide a wide variety of micro-switches for industrial purposes.
