AUD/USD May Rise as New South Wales Reopens, Energy Prices Remain in Focus

Australian Dollar, AUD/USD, Energy, Inflation – Talking Points

Australian Dollar off to a cautious start after AUD/USD rose over 0.50% last week
Prevailing risk trends may drive prices action with little on the economic docket
AUD/USD looks to hold above the 50-day Simple Moving Average (SMA) Monday

Monday's Asia-Pacific Forecast

Asia-Pacific markets appear set for an open higher Monday as the trading week kicks off. Today doesn't offer much in the way of event risks, with a rather sparse economic calendar. That leaves markets susceptible to prevailing risk trends from last week when a deal on the US debt ceiling spurred some risk-taking across markets. The risk-sensitive Australian Dollar is tracking cautiously higher versus the US Dollar. AUD/USD rose over half a percent last week.

Given the lack of economic events on today's docket, traders will eye upcoming events due out later this week. These include inflation data out of China, New Zealand, and the United States, UK GDP, Australian and American consumer confidence, and US retail sales. Corporate America is also set to begin another quarterly earnings season. Investors will analyze earnings reports for clues of companies' views on the global economic outlook, and perhaps most critically, inflation.

New South Wales (NSW), Australia's most populated state, will roll back some Covid-19 restrictions today, marking the first step in reopening the state following a one hundred day lockdown. The state achieved an over 70% vaccination rate. Easing travel restrictions will be the next big step, with a possible reopening slated for November.

Elsewhere, energy prices will remain in focus after surging natural gas and coal prices spurred more aggressive outlooks on global inflation. US natural gas prices hit the highest level since 2014 last week. China ordered coal-fired power plants to increase output recently to combat the enormous rise in energy prices, which has caused policymakers to clamp down on manufacturing to preserve power. Chinese energy providers will also be allowed to temporarily boost customer rates, according to Reuters news wires.

AUD/USD Technical Forecast

AUD/USD is trading directly above its 50-day Simple Moving Average (SMA) after rising 0.69% last week. Despite last week's strength, prices remain nearly 2% lower from the September swing high. Bulls will look to hold prices above the 50-day SMA. Otherwise, dropping below the moving average will threaten trendline support that capped prices over the past couple of weeks.

Honda MVX 250F,которая удивила всю мотообщественность в 1983г.Сердцем мотоцикла был очень необычный двигатель – V-образная тройка.Такая компоновка
была позаимствована у гоночных мотоциклов NS400 и NS500 .249 куб 2-тактный 3-цилиндровый двигатель с развалом цилиндров 90 градусов и жидкостным охлаждением
выдавал 49 лошадиных сил на 9000 об./мин.и 31 н.м. на 8500 об./мин. Он был установлен в раму таким образом, что два его цилиндра, расположенных горизонтально,
были направлены вперёд, а третий цилиндр, расположенный вертикально, был направлен вверх.Такая компоновка имела довольно сильную вибрацию ,поэтому инженеры Хонда
пошли на хитрость и сделали шатун для вертикального цилиндра толще и тяжелее, чем для горизонтальных.И это сработало ,а также повысило надежность одиночного
цилиндра.
На 6м месте роторный силовой агрегат,который в 60е годы должен был заменить обычные двигатели.Многие автомобильные и мотоциклетные фирмы работали по этой теме.
Из японских мотоциклетных концернов дальше всех продвинулась компания Suzuki,которая не стала заморачиваться и купила у NSU патент на двигатель Ванкеля.После
чего в 1974г дебютировал Suzuki RE-5.Его мотор односекционный, жидкостного охлаждения,с рабочим объемом 497 куб.см.и мощностью 62 л.с.
Далее идет знаменитая модель от Хонда Honda CBX 1000,которая появилась в продаже в 1978г.Мотоцикл естественно производил впечатление. Могучий
шестицилиндровый двигатель воздушного охлаждения ,два распредвала и аж 24 клапана, рабочий объем 1047 см.куб., мощность 105 л.с.,байк оснащался шестью
карбюраторами постоянного разряжения. На момент своего выхода мотоцикл установил рекорд скорости в 225 км/ч .Можно сказать, что Honda CBX 1000 был первым
в мире гипербайком.

EUR/USD May Fall Further in Week Ahead, 1.14 Likely

Fundamental Euro Forecast: Bearish

Last Wednesday's sharp fall in EUR/USD below 1.15 to its lowest level for almost 16 months was due to news that US inflation had hit its highest level in 30 years rather than to any new developments in the Eurozone.
Nonetheless, it emphasized again how far the European Central Bank will be behind the Federal Reserve in tightening monetary policy, and that will likely prompt further falls in EUR/USD both near-term and long-term.

Euro price heading for 1.14; likely lower

The Euro is continuing to suffer from the perception that the European Central Bank will not be tightening monetary policy until well after some of the other major central banks, including the US Federal Reserve and the Bank of England. Even though the markets long ago priced that in, last Wednesday's steep fall in EUR/USD after a shocking set of US inflation data suggests that the slide in the pair is far from over.

The December 16 meeting of the policymaking ECB Governing Council remains key as by then the council members will have received the revised forecasts for the Eurozone economy. Even though inflation hit a 13-year high in October at 4.1% – more than double the ECB's target of 2% in the medium term – the key question will be whether the council members will still expect it to fade in the coming months.

The bad news for Euro bulls is that they are most likely to continue to believe it will, and that will likely mean not just a near-term fall in EUR/USD below 1.14 but longer-term weakness too.

This is a possible timetable: In March next year, the ECB will end its pandemic emergency purchase program, or PEPP, and all its bond-buying programs could be wound up by the Fall. Yet, in the words of ECB President Christine Lagarde, it is "very unlikely" that there will be a rate hike next year.

So even if the main asset purchase program, or APP, continues for several months after the PEPP, the ECB will still lag behind the Fed in tapering its asset purchases and hiking interest rates. For sure, we won't know any of this for certain until the December 16 unveiling of the ECB's QE tapering plans, but as long as it expects price pressures to fade next year the Euro's underperformance is set to continue.

Week ahead: Eurozone GDP and CPI

Turning to the week ahead, there are few Eurozone data points of note. The third-quarter GDP figures Tuesday are a second estimate, and the October inflation numbers Wednesday are final data that will only be interesting if the year/year rate is far from the 4.1% first reported.
